Tincuţa is pronounced tin-coot-sa, and comes from the Roma village of Voivoideasa, near Radauti. She’s 18, and had become one of the main Sunday School workers at Papa’s church there.  Last school year, she was accepted on to a bakery course at a college run by Mennonites, in Suceava city.

This is a marvellous opportunity for a bright and hard-working girl to obtain a marketable skill, which in turn might mean she can become a role-model for other Roma to break out of the cycle of social exclusion.  There will be many obstacles to overcome however.

The first year there went very well, and she stayed with a local family.  However, she surprised us all over the summer by getting married to a lad from her village!  Nevertheless, she has started back at the college for her her second year, visiting home at weekends.

Keep an eye out for our monthly newsletters for more installments on Tincuta’s story!

Dana visited the Roma church over Christmas, and sends the latest news:

She was very impressed over how well they are doing, with very little Romanian input now.  Tincuta is running the children’s program, and organised the Christmas play.  As well as all this, and being married, she is still managing to attend the Mennonite college in Suceava!

Please pray that she will keep on through to end of her Diploma, and also that she will be a positive role model for so many Roma children.
